Some of the year 5 students who have taken part in the Sports Accelerate programme at YJB

Over the past 3 months Ysgol John Bright has hosted a Sports Accelerate Programme for 22 year 5 students from our feeder primary schools.

Initially the students we identified as being the top 10% More Able and Talented in a sporting context.

The aims of the programme were to:

  • Engender and support the development of positive attitudes by young people towards physical activity
  • Improve all students’ core skills and confidence in PE and Sport, enabling greater access to the PE curriculum
  • Provide an effective assessment for learning tool.

The programme is for Sport Wales and is being piloted in Conwy by Ysgol John Bright and Ysgol Bryn Elian.  Not only will the students feel a health and fitness benefit they will also improve their social, personal, cognitive and creative abilities.

This will have a positive impact on their performance in other subjects and help them to improve their own learning and performance.

Furthermore the students got to use the facilities at Ysgol John Bright and meet some of the teachers which will aid the transition between primary and secondary school.
