Year 7 Ethos
At Ysgol John Bright, it is our ethos that if a student is happy they will be ready to learn and will thrive in all aspects of life. Together, the Year 7 Pastoral team will strive to provide the care and support every individual needs to enable them to access all elements of the Secondary curriculum and become mature, well-rounded individuals. In order to achieve this, all students are required to arrive at school promptly in full school uniform, with their own equipment (including a pen, pencil and ruler) and their planner. This will ensure they are ready to learn and will foster the positive attitude we aim to achieve.
Education at Ysgol John Bright
Your child will be placed in one of 9 form groups. The groups will be known as 7Y, 7J, 7O, 7N, 7B, 7R, 7I, 7G and 7T; the names for the forms are taken from the school’s name - Ysgol JOhN BRIGhT. These forms afford every student a firm base for their time at Ysgol John Bright. They will meet as a form for 25 minutes every morning and will be taught in forms for English, Humanities, French, Music, Drama, Art and ICT. They will be taught in mixed ability groups for Technology and in sets based on ability for Welsh, Maths and Science, where groups will be finalised by October half term. Having so many lessons as a form group will enable clear and focused monitoring of progress to take place and allow the tutors to monitor achievement across the curriculum.
As part of their education, your child will have regular formal and informal assessments within every subject area. They will be issued with two formal assessment reviews during the year. You will also receive one full report and have the opportunity to attend two parents’ evenings to discuss your child’s progress. The dates for all of these can be found on the Year 7 Assessment calendar.
