Welcome from the Chair of GovernorsThe governors of Ysgol John Bright are justly proud of the school community including all staff and students. Our students achieve standards well above the national average which is testament to their hard work and the dedication of our staff. However, our school is about so much more than just exam results, we are a very caring school and are very proud of our inclusive student centered approach to learning. It is important to the governors that each student achieves their full potential and leaves Ysgol John Bright fully equipped for their future life whether in work or in further education.
The role of the governing body is to make the long term strategic decisions for the future of the school. This involves governors working as a team setting the ethos, budget, staffing levels, standards of behaviour, curriculum, student attendance and student attainment targets, with the overall aim to raise the standards in education. There are 20 members of the Governing Body. Most of our work takes place in panels or committees which oversee all aspects of school life and those panels are led by knowledgeable and experienced chairs. Each Governor also has a link subject or link area and this gives us an in depth knowledge of the working of the school, which enables us to fulfil our role as a “critical friend” – enabling us to challenge when necessary and when appropriate. All members of the Governing Body undertake Governor training and our processes and practices have received recognition by the award of the Bronze Quality Mark. The Governing Body’s commitment to the school is unwavering in ensuring the continued provision of an outstanding educational experience for students both now and in the future. To this end we are always eager to hear the views of members of our community including parents and students.
