All Bobby Child wants in life is to perform on stage but his domineering mother, and fiancée Irene, have other plans for him. In order to escape their demands, he accepts an assignment to closedown an ailing theatre in Deadrock, Nevada, which has failed to meet its mortgage repayments.

Arriving in the desert, he falls in love at first sight with Polly, the feisty daughter of theatre-owner Everett. All goes well until Polly discovers the reason for his visit and spurns Bobby.

In a desperate attempt to win her affections, Bobby disguises himself as the famous Hungarian director, Bela Zangler and puts together a show to save the theatre from bankruptcy. However,when the real Zangler shows up, the fun really starts…
