The Youth Hostel Association (YHA) runs a series of summer camps each year based on a variety of activites including performing arts.

MAKING TRACKS
BBC 3 website hosts a series of music games including Beatmachine, Sequenza and Bata Drum, as well as the cartoon trolls on Peer Gynt.


Resources

SIBELIUS
Sibelius is the software we use in school for composition. A student version is available for just £99. Maybe if you ask Father Christmas nicely enough…?

AUDACITY
Audacity is a freeware programme for editing sound files. We use it in school to transfer tape and minidisc recordings to CD. It has the ability to add tracks and cut out unwanted bits of music as well as adding various effects or changing pitch.


Revision Sites

Unfortunately there is no specific WJEC exam revision websites but sections of the following sites overlap with our course and are worth investigating.

BBC BITESIZE
Pobably one of the most used revision websites. Audio examples and tests online.

MUSIC AT SCHOOL
Quizzes, games and revision notes – not all are relevant though so be careful what you spend your time on!

THE MUSIC LAND
Free resources plus forum for question and answers on Music GCSE. Requires free registration.

AS & GCSE COURSE RESOURCES
Currently has resources / homelearning tasks for AS Russian Ballet Music and some GCSE help. Under development!


Competitions

TEXACO YOUNG MUSICIAN OF WALES 2007
Classical music competition – first round in October 2006. First prize £1000 and the chance to play solo with a full symphony orchestra.

URDD EISTEDDFOD
Annual youth eisteddfod with a range of musical competitions.

    Searching the internet for options in north Wales to convert ~25 Sony minidiscs to another more widely available digital format (eg CD or USB), and I came across your Music Links website. The discs are a collection belonging to an elderly former professional clarinet player, of her broadcasts on radio, she was a founder member of the London Clarinet Consortium.
    She is leaving her collection of musical achievements and her vast collection of music to The National Trust, and I’m keen that we save the Minidiscs in particular as they are an important part of her life history.
    Would your department be interested in this project?
