On Wednesday lunchtimes, the ‘Mad About Books’ Reading Club meet every week in YJB Library, to talk about books, share favourites and once again this year, shadow the Carnegie Book Awards. Students read as many of the shortlisted books as time allows, discuss their thoughts about which should win, and update their group page on the Carnegie Shadowing website.
On Wednesday 3rd May, they had a visit from Anne Thomas, Librarian at Llandudno Public Library. Anne is to be one of the judges of the Carnegie Award next year, so she was keen to hear the students’ thoughts about reading the books and see how the school takes part in the Shadowing process. The students told her about the books they were reading and which ones they thought should win the award. She explained that she had over 200 books to read for next year’s award! This year is the 80th year of the Carnegie Award and the 60th year of the Greenaway Award for the best children’s book illustration.
The students will be reading madly until June 19th when they will be watching keenly for the announcement about the winning title!
