Dear Parents/Guardians

“Dressing for Excellence” Ysgol John Bright School Uniform from 1st September 2014

I am writing to give you further information about the purchasing arrangements for the new school uniform. As outlined earlier this academic year, Ysgol John Bright will have a new uniform as from 1st September 2014. The uniform is smart, simple, of good quality and value for money. This new uniform is compulsory for Years 7–13 and alternative uniform items will not be acceptable.

Price and Buckland are the chosen uniform supplier based on their experience and reputation as well as the quality and durability of their uniform. Once fitted, a blazer is expected to last a student two years of their academic life. The jumper is optional but compliments the blazer during the winter months. The introduction of Banner trousers and skirts allow parental choice of where you source the Banner items. White shirts can be purchased from many uniform retailers.

The introduction of the Price and Buckland plain black business suit as sixth form uniform provides our young adults with a multi-functional wardrobe staple, which sets them apart from the lower school. Current year 12 and year 11 students will be invited over the forthcoming two weeks to attend a business suit fitting at school. On the allocated day, students will be sized and fitted for the uniform. School staff will guide and assist students.

Based on industry knowledge and experience, a wide ranging stock of Blazers, Jumpers and Ties will be manufactured by Price and Buckland Ltd and available to try on and purchase through two local retailers, Boppers and School Talk. It is anticipated that the jumpers and ties will be available week commencing 14th April 2014 and the blazers will be available week commencing 5th May 2014 due to a longer manufacture lead time. Banner trousers and skirts are currently in stock and the school would advise if a replacement is required of any items before September 2014 that you purchase the new uniform rather than the old. The school acknowledge a transitional period for the uniform between now and September 2014 where both items will be accepted.

The local retailers supporting the school and stocking our uniform are:

Boppers Boutique, 1-3 Woodland Road West, Colwyn Bay. LL29 7DH. Telephone No: 01492 534421

Boppers Limited is a dedicated school retailer offering a wealth of knowledge and experience in the school uniform market, stocking garments from all top schoolwear suppliers. Established in Colwyn Bay 40 years ago, the present owners have run the business for 15 years and maintain the independent family run ethos offering personal service and competitive prices. Boppers continue to have close links with the schools they stock uniforms for and pride themselves on the commitment to both the schools and parents in meeting all their needs.

School Talk, 159 Mostyn Street, Llandudno, LL30 2PE. Telephone Number: 01492 876995

Clifton House Newsagents is one of the longest established businesses in Llandudno. The present owners have run the business for 10 years. School Talk was opened 7 years ago, in the lower ground floor shop. The school uniform side of the business has grown enormously in that time and continues to do so each year as they take on more schools. Due to this success, School Talk is expanding its space and taking over half of the newsagents. So school uniform will be available for purchase from 6:30am 7 days a week!

Assistance and advice on sizing can be obtained from both experienced outlets where the staff will be only too happy to help.
For students in receipt of free school meals you may be entitled to a uniform subsidy which can be claimed via the Local Education Authority, telephone number 01492 576491. Please ask the school for further details. Upon completion of the application a uniform voucher is issued which can be exchanged for school uniform to the value of £105 in the first year and £28 for subsequent years. Please note only one claim per year can be made.

We have approached Crest Co-operative Conwy who will help recycle the old uniform. Crest Co-operative Conwy work to develop sustainable social enterprises, working throughout the communities of Conwy and Denbighshire. Crest Co-operative will collect all unwanted textiles free of charge from Ysgol John Bright and in exchange they will pay £200 for every tonne collected, we will then ask our students via the Senedd to decide where to make a charitable donation with all monies collected. Parents and students are welcome to drop their unwanted uniform at reception from June 2nd 2014 onwards.

As part of their commitment to the communities where Price and Buckland goods are produced they donate 2p per every item of uniform sold to ‘Room to Read’, a charity that helps children throughout Asia and Africa to develop their literacy skills and develop their love of reading. You can find out more at www.roomtoread.org.

Throughout this process Ysgol John Bright endeavour to help and support our parents and students to ensure a smooth transition and the new uniform is accessible to all. A copy of the school uniform policy is available upon request. If you have any concerns regarding the uniform Becky Davies (Business Manager) will be happy to discuss these with you on Wednesdays and Thursdays 3:30-4:30pm. Please phone the school to make an appointment on 01492 864200.

Many thanks for your continued support.

Yours faithfully

  1. Hi could you tell me what wet/ inclement weather wear is suggested or required as my granddaughter has just started school at John Bright and we are not sure of what will be ok for walking to school in the winter?
