An Inspiring look into the Culture of Paris

During the February half term, the Modern Foreign Languages and Welsh Faculty took 35 students from Years 9 and 10 to enjoy the sights and sounds of Paris. We were thrown into a number of activities from the moment we arrived: we started by taking a visit to the majestic building known as the Louvre museum. We saw the sculpture of Venus de Milo and the Winged Victory and a number of famous paintings including ‘La Joconde’ otherwise known as the Mona Lisa.

Some of us overcame our fear of heights and managed to climb the 1021 steps to the second floor of the Eiffel Tower. Students were inspired by the magnificent views from the second floor seeing miniature, lego-like versions of the famous monuments we have only seen previously in books and on the television. The cold and snowy February weather gave the monuments, such as the Sacre Coeur and the Arc de Triomphe, a Christmas card feel which just added to the magic of Paris.
On the second day, we took a long walk up the Champs Elysées (the longest road in Paris at 1.18 miles), admiring the amazing architecture of the shops such as Abercrombie and Fitch, Louis Vuitton and Hugo Boss; not to mention the car showrooms and their outstanding displays, for example, the Renault and the Citroen showrooms.

All staff and students walked up the Arc de Triomphe, another 284 steps; there was no time to stop. When we reached the top we were stunned by the views of the world’s most dangerous roundabout and with many near misses – we had to look away! Underneath, the flame of the ‘Tomb of the Unknown Soldier’ continued to burn, a dedicated memory to the soldiers killed at war.

The highlight of the trip to Paris was the wonderful world of Disneyland. With favourite Disney characters walking around – an opportunity for an autograph or even a photo, spectacular live shows, fabulous rides and much, much more. This was a trip that will be remembered for a long time in the minds of both the staff and students alike.

All staff would like to thank the students for their excellent behaviour and an unforgettable experience!
