Ysgol John Bright students had the privilege of visiting the National Opera Studio as part of the Performing and Expressive Arts Faculty annual trip to London. Having visited the National Gallery and attending a performance of ‘Mamma Mia!’ in the West End the previous day, YJB Students were given an insight into the professional world of Opera by visiting this prestigious training studio.
“It’s not about where you’re from, but about where you’re going” said Katherine Harries, Director of the National Opera Studio, in an inspirational talk to YJB students, urging them to pursue their aspirations of professional careers within the performing arts industry.
Whilst at the studio YJB students saw breathtaking performances from the current students at the studio, including scenes from ‘La Traviata’ and ‘Eugene Onegin’. Students and staff alike were enthralled by the performances, before the morning’s session ended with a question-and-answer session with the students of the Opera studio.
Established by the Arts Council, and part funded by the six major opera companies in the UK, an elite group of post graduate singers and repetiteurs study at the studio every year in preparation for a professional career with an opera company.
