Thanks to the Modern Foreign Language Department Ysgol John Bright was able to host 57 French students and their 4 teachers for an exciting afternoon of cross-curricular activities on Thursday 21st of June.
The guests arrived at lunchtime and after a warm welcome from Mr Davies and the MFL Staff and a group photo taken in front of the school buildings the students were paired up with their Welsh counterparts and began their afternoon of activities. With the generous support of the Technology and PE Departments students experienced cooking, IT research and a game of rounders, all chosen specifically to ensure students communicated with each other in both French and English to successfully complete the tasks.
The afternoon was a resounding success with students exchanging contact details in order to maintain their new friendships. The French school were extremely complimentary about Ysgol John Bright, the staff and most importantly the Year 10 GCSE and A Level Language students who were involved.
A special thank you also goes to Danielle Hawkins our New Head Girl, and Ellie Jones and Laura Thomas, Duke of Edinburgh language students for their help on the day. It is the hope of the MFL department that this visit can become an annual event for the benefit of YJB’s MFL students whilst helping to make YJB an international school. We have also been invited to the school Les Pierres Dorées in the future.
Madame Saywood-Peyrasse would like to thank the staff and students involved on the day for their support and enthusiasm in making it such a success.
